Fructose Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
The average fructose export price stood at $642 per ton in July 2023, surging by 10% against the previous month. Over the period from September 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 17% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $671 per ton. From February 2023 to July 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($1,773 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($529 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Fructose Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average fructose import price amounted to $808 per ton, waning by -58.5% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 52% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,950 per ton, and then contracted notably in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($3,133 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($305 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+10.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Fructose Exports in the United States
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was growth in shipments abroad of fructose and fructose syrup, when their volume increased by 2.6% to 1.2M tons. In general, exports, however, recorded a perceptible downturn.
In value terms, fructose exports skyrocketed to $696M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Fructose Imports in the United States
In 2022, supplies from abroad of fructose and fructose syrup decreased by -0.4% to 252K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.8% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 25%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 253K tons, leveling off in the following year.
In value terms, fructose imports amounted to $309M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +42.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 30%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
