Fish Parts Price in Nigeria (CIF) - 2022
The average fish parts import price stood at $3,976 per ton in June 2022, growing by 8.4% against the previous month. Over the period from June 2021 to June 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2022, the country with the highest price was the UK ($4,270 per ton), while the price for Norway ($3,803 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2021 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iceland (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Fish Parts Price in Nigeria (FOB) - 2022
The average fish parts export price stood at $121,499 per ton in 2022, increasing by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 160%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($264,885 per ton), while the average price for exports to Macao SAR stood at $66,951 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+20.6%).
Fish Parts Imports in Nigeria
In 2022, overseas purchases of fish heads, tails and maws decreased by -21% to 25K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -21.3% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 66%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 31K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, fish parts imports shrank rapidly to $79M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.1% over the last three years. For the third year in a row, Nigeria recorded decline in overseas shipments of fish heads, tails and maws, which decreased by -2.6% to 16 tons in 2022. In general, exports showed a sharp shrinkage.
In value terms, fish parts exports expanded notably to $1.9M in 2022. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 19%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $2.3M.
