Dried Onion Price in Pakistan (CIF) - 2022
The average dried onion import price stood at $4,814 per ton in 2022, rising by 13% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, dried onion import price increased by +73.8% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($5,335 per ton), while the price for Iran ($461 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+59.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Dried Onion Price in Pakistan (FOB) - 2022
The average dried onion export price stood at $1,819 per ton in 2022, falling by -4.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 49%. The export price peaked at $1,952 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bangladesh ($2,892 per ton), while the average price for exports to Oman ($895 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+7.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Dried Onion Imports in Pakistan
Dried onion imports into Pakistan fell notably to 95 tons in 2022, dropping by -62.3% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports showed a significant decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year.
