World Consumption of Degras
In 2022, approx. 3.5M tons of degras were consumed worldwide; picking up by 5.2% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak volume of 4.1M tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the global consumption failed to regain momentum.

China (516K tons) remains the largest degras consuming country worldwide, accounting for 15% of total volume. Moreover, degras consumption in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest consumer, the United States (230K tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by India (196K tons), with a 5.6% share.
In China, degras consumption remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United States (-1.2% per year) and India (-0.1% per year).
In value terms, China ($520M), Japan ($381M) and Brazil ($318M) constituted the countries with the highest levels of market value in 2022, together comprising 43% of the global market. South Korea, the United States, India, Spain, the Netherlands, the UK, Indonesia, Germany, Denmark and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 34%.
Spain, with a CAGR of +25.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to market size among the main consuming countries over the period under review, while market for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In 2022, the highest levels of degras per capita consumption was registered in Denmark (22 kg per person), followed by the Netherlands (8.8 kg per person), Spain (3 kg per person) and South Korea (2.7 kg per person), while the world average per capita consumption of degras was estimated at 0.4 kg per person.

In 2022, approx. 3.3M tons of degras were produced worldwide; increasing by 1.9% on the year before. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the production volume increased by 20%. As a result, production attained the peak volume of 4.2M tons. From 2015 to 2022, global production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, degras production contracted to $2.4B in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, saw a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 10%. Over the period under review, global production hit record highs at $2.8B in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.
Production By Country
China (517K tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of degras production, accounting for 16% of total volume. Moreover, degras production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, the United States (222K tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by India (194K tons), with a 5.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume in China was relatively modest. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: the United States (-0.5% per year) and India (-0.1% per year).

In 2022, France (79K tons), followed by the Netherlands (53K tons), Tunisia (50K tons), Spain (41K tons), Poland (40K tons), Indonesia (37K tons), Italy (30K tons), Germany (26K tons) and Portugal (24K tons) represented the major exporters of degras, together creating 72% of total exports. Malaysia (22K tons), Romania (19K tons), Norway (18K tons) and Belgium (18K tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Export Prices By Country
In 2022, the average degras export price amounted to $460 per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, degras export price increased by +25.9% against 2018 indices.
