Crude Soybean Oil Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2023
The average crude soybean oil export price stood at $1,151 per ton in August 2023, rising by 7.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 20% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $1,576 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($1,435 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mauritius ($862 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mozambique (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Crude Soybean Oil Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2023
The average crude soybean oil import price stood at $1,215 per ton in August 2023, almost unchanged from the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 an increase of 12% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $1,718 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($1,758 per ton), while the price for Poland ($973 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Crude Soybean Oil Exports in the Netherlands
In 2022, shipments abroad of crude soybean oil decreased by -17.4% to 230K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports faced a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 0.5%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 339K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, crude soybean oil exports expanded sharply to $349M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +48.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 23% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
