Cotton Sewing Thread Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average cotton sewing thread import price amounted to $3,504 per ton, flattening at the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 29%. The import price peaked at $6,299 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($24,060 per ton), while the price for China ($2,139 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average cotton sewing thread export price amounted to $4,834 per ton, with an increase of 4.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw mild growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 138% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $8,326 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($7,869 per ton), while the average price for exports to Myanmar amounted to $4,158 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+34.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cotton Sewing Thread Imports in Malaysia
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of cotton sewing thread decreased by -16.1% to 382 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 75%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 456 tons, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
