Citrus Fruit Price in Bahrain (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average citrus fruit import price amounted to $774 per ton, surging by 6% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 19% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($1,365 per ton), while the price for Syrian Arab Republic ($320 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Citrus Fruit Price in Bahrain (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average citrus fruit export price amounted to $842 per ton, dropping by -17.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, posted strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 105% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,027 per ton in 2021, and then declined markedly in the following year.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Saudi Arabia.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Kuwait amounted to +16.4% per year.

Citrus Fruit Imports in Bahrain

In 2022, overseas purchases of citrus fruits decreased by -4.4% to 39K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 6.4% against the previous year.

In value terms, citrus fruit imports amounted to $30M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 20% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $31M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Citrus Fruit Exports in Bahrain

In 2022, shipments abroad of citrus fruits decreased by -76.9% to 768 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a sharp contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 48%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 4K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, citrus fruit exports shrank significantly to $647K in 2022. In general, exports saw a sharp contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 117%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $3.5M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
