Brown Rice Price in Bahrain (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average brown rice import price amounted to $1,753 per ton, surging by 6.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, brown rice import price decreased by -16.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 24%. The import price peaked at $2,091 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($6,430 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($769 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+10.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average brown rice export price stood at $2,037 per ton in 2022, falling by -26.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, enjoyed a pronounced expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 83% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $2,784 per ton in 2021, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Niger ($7,929 per ton), while the average price for exports to Yemen ($689 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Jordan (+37.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Brown Rice Imports in Bahrain

For the third consecutive year, Bahrain recorded decline in purchases abroad of husked (brown) rice, which decreased by -8.2% to 64 tons in 2022. In general, imports showed a sharp reduction.

In value terms, brown rice imports contracted slightly to $112K in 2022. Overall, imports faced a sharp descent.
