Beer Price in Hong Kong SAR (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average beer import price amounted to $855 per thousand litres, shrinking by -4.8% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 an increase of 4.7% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $955 per thousand litres in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($1.9 per litre), while the price for China ($676 per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Beer Price in Hong Kong SAR (FOB) - 2023
The average beer export price stood at $975 per thousand litres in August 2023, falling by -5.5% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2023 an increase of 13% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $1.0 per litre in July 2023, and then dropped in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Macao SAR ($2.0 per litre), while the average price for exports to Lebanon ($627 per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Macao SAR (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Beer Imports in Hong Kong SAR
Beer imports into Hong Kong SAR shrank modestly to 136M litres in 2022, declining by -3.2% on 2021 figures. Overall, imports recorded a pronounced reduction. The smallest decline of -0.5% was in 2020. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at 147M litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, beer imports fell modestly to $115M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a slight curtailment. The smallest decline of -0.1% was in 2021. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $119M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Beer Exports in Hong Kong SAR
In 2022, beer exports from Hong Kong SAR expanded rapidly to 35M litres, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, beer exports rose sharply to $33M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a noticeable decline. The exports peaked at $36M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
