The country with the largest volume of ammonia in aqueous solution production was China (1.3M tons), comprising approx. 19% of total volume. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Exports from Saudi Arabia decreased at an average annual rate of -2.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Lithuania (+41.9%), Slovakia (+32.9%), the Czech Republic (+19.6%), Poland (+17.5%), the United States (+15.0%), the Netherlands (+8.0%), Belgium (+6.8%), Bahrain (+5.2%) and France (+4.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lithuania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +41.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Germany (-3.2%), Canada (-3.5%) and Egypt (-5.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+7.4 p.p.), the Netherlands (+5.1 p.p.), the Czech Republic (+4.2 p.p.), Belgium (+3.9 p.p.), Slovakia (+2.7 p.p.), Lithuania (+2.5 p.p.), the United States (+2 p.p.) and Bahrain (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Saudi Arabia and Egypt saw its share reduced by -6.7% and -7.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($414M) remains the largest ammonia in aqueous solution supplier worldwide, comprising 55% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($42M), with a 5.6% share of global exports. It was followed by Bahrain, with a 4.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Saudi Arabia totaled +3.7%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Egypt (-6.8% per year) and Bahrain (+8.8% per year).

Export Prices By Country
