The average alkali metals; sodium import price stood at $3,279 per ton in 2022, reducing by -7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average import price increased by 45% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $3,736 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($3,518 per ton), while the price for Russia stood at $1,924 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+8.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Alkali Metals; Sodium Imports in Kazakhstan
In 2022, purchases abroad of alkali metals; sodia decreased by -25.9% to 123 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 107% against the previous year.
In value terms, alkali metals; sodium imports declined remarkably to $405K in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 118%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $614K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
