Vegetable Market Size in SADC

The SADC vegetable market declined to $X in 2022, stabilizing at the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Vegetable Production in SADC

Mozambique, Angola, Madagascar and Democratic Republic of the Congo lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Mozambique (with a CAGR of X%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average yield of vegetables in SADC amounted to X tons per ha, flattening at 2021. Overall, the yield, however, continues to indicate a slight contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the vegetable yield hit record highs at X tons per ha in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the yield remained at a lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

Exports in SADC

In 2022, vegetable exports in SADC declined to X tons, dropping by X% against 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, vegetable exports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

South Africa prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Tanzania (X tons), generating a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Namibia (X tons) and Botswana (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.

South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of vegetables. At the same time, Botswana (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Botswana emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Tanzania (X%) and Namibia (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Botswana increased by X percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest vegetable supplier in SADC, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Namibia ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Botswana, with a X% share.
