In 2023, South Africa (X tons) represented the major exporter of mushrooms and truffles, creating X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Tanzania (X tons), making up a X% share of total exports. Malawi (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In 2023, supplies from abroad of mushrooms and truffles increased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, mushroom and truffle imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a slight descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2023, Botswana (X tons), distantly followed by Mauritius (X tons), Mozambique (X tons), Swaziland (X tons), Namibia (X tons), Lesotho (X tons) and South Africa (X tons) were the key importers of mushrooms and truffles, together achieving X% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Mozambique (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
