The following exporters - Malawi (X tons) and Madagascar (X tons) - each amounted to a X% share of total exports.
Tanzania was also the fastest-growing in terms of the freshwater fish exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Zimbabwe (X%) and Malawi (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, South Africa (X%) and Madagascar (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Tanzania (X p.p.) and Zimbabwe (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Madagascar and South Africa saw its share reduced by X% and X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, freshwater fish imports declined markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Lesotho (X tons), distantly followed by Zimbabwe (X tons), South Africa (X tons), Zambia (X tons) and Tanzania (X tons) were the major importers of freshwater fish, together mixing up X% of total imports. Botswana (X tons) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Democratic Republic of the Congo (with a CAGR of X%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
