Production By Country in Latin America and the Caribbean

The country with the largest volume of sheet piling production was Uruguay (X tons), comprising approx. X% of total volume. Moreover, sheet piling production in Uruguay exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Bolivia (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Ecuador (X tons), with an X% share.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2020, sheet piling exports in Latin America and the Caribbean dropped dramatically to X tons, shrinking by -X% on 2019 figures. Overall, exports continue to indicate a mild decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sheet piling exports expanded slightly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2009 to 2020, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Brazil represented the main exporter of sheet piling in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2020. It was distantly followed by Uruguay (X tons), Chile (X tons), the Dominican Republic (X tons) and Panama (X tons), together making up a X% share of total exports.

Exports from Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2020. At the same time, Uruguay (+X%), Chile (+X%) and the Dominican Republic (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uruguay emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2020. By contrast, Panama (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Brazil (+X p.p.), Uruguay (+X p.p.), Chile (+X p.p.) and the Dominican Republic (+X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2007-2020, the share of Panama (-X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest sheet piling supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Chile ($X), with an X% share of total exports. It was followed by the Dominican Republic, with a X% share.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, sheet piling imports contracted rapidly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a mild descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. The level of import peaked at $X in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Mexico (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) were the main importers of sheet piling in 2020, amounting to approx. X% and X% of total imports, respectively. Guyana (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Suriname (X%), Bahamas (X%) and Colombia (X%). Peru (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Import Prices by Country

In 2020, the sheet piling import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, growing by X% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2009 to 2020, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Guyana ($X per ton), while Suriname ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
