After two years of decline, the Italian canned mushroom market increased by 1.3% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a sharp descent. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 17%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, canned mushroom imports declined modestly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 21%. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Poland (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main suppliers of canned mushroom imports to Italy, with a combined 87% share of total imports. Belgium and France lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 8.5%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +91.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
