As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

In value terms, fertilizer exports declined markedly to $X in 2023. In general, exports, however, recorded slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then fell notably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Russia was the main exporter of fertilizers in Europe, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2023. Belarus (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by the Netherlands (X tons) and Belgium (X tons). All these countries together took near X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Germany (X tons), Norway (X tons), Poland (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the fertilizers exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Belarus (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Spain, Germany, Belgium and Norway experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Poland (X%), the Netherlands (X%) and Lithuania (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (X p.p.) and Belarus (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Lithuania and the Netherlands saw its share reduced by X% and X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest fertilizer supplier in Europe, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with an X% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia stood at X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (X% per year) and the Netherlands (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2023, shrinking by X% against the previous year. Export price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2023: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, fertilizer export price increased by X% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2022, and then fell in the following year.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Russia ($X per ton) and Poland ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) and Belgium ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Fertilizer Imports

Imports in Europe

After four years of growth, overseas purchases of fertilizers decreased by X% to X tons in 2023. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined notably in the following year.

In value terms, fertilizer imports contracted remarkably to $X in 2023. Overall, imports, however, saw a mild increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2022 with an increase of X%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2023, France (X tons), followed by Germany (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Poland (X tons), the UK (X tons), Spain (X tons), Italy (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) were the major importers of fertilizers, together committing X% of total imports. The Netherlands (X tons), Ireland (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, France ($X), Germany ($X) and Belgium ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2023, together accounting for X% of total imports. Poland, Spain, the UK, Italy, Ukraine, Romania, the Netherlands, Ireland, Lithuania and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

Romania, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2023, reducing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2022, and then fell in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
