The CIS frozen chicken cut market fell to $X in 2022, waning by -6.1% against the previous year. Exports in CIS

For the eleventh year in a row, the CIS recorded growth in overseas shipments of frozen cuts of chicken, which increased by 7.4% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 80% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, frozen chicken cut exports rose sharply to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 95% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Russia (X tons) represented the major exporter of frozen cuts of chicken, making up 70% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), constituting a 27% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to frozen chicken cut exports from Russia stood at +26.9%. At the same time, Belarus (+27.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Export price indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, frozen chicken cut export price increased by +87.9% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 57%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Russia amounted to $X per ton.

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of frozen cuts of chicken decreased by -5.7% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports recorded a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, frozen chicken cut imports rose sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a noticeable slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 31%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan (X tons) and Russia (X tons) were the key importers of frozen cuts of chicken in 2022, amounting to near 32% and 27% of total imports, respectively. Uzbekistan (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Kyrgyzstan (7.9%), Armenia (7%), Belarus (6.4%) and Azerbaijan (5.4%).

In value terms, the largest frozen chicken cut importing markets in the CIS were Kazakhstan ($X), Russia ($X) and Armenia ($X), together comprising 70% of total imports. Belarus, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +40.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 13% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Azerbaijan (+8.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
