The average import price for stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms stood at $3,858 per ton in August 2023, which is down by -15.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 17% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $5,421 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($4,877 per ton), while the price for Switzerland amounted to $2,287 per ton.
From December 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average export price for stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms stood at $3,611 per ton in 2022, growing by 22% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 90% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $5,259 per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($5,383 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($1,924 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+12.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Stainless Steel; Flat-Rolled Products of Width Less than 600mm in Slovakia
For the fourth year in a row, Slovakia recorded growth in purchases abroad of stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms, which increased by 11% to 21K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +51.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, imports of stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms soared to $77M in 2022. Overall, imports recorded significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 52%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Over the period under review, exports showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 145%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, exports of stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms skyrocketed to $7.1M in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 165%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
