Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Italy (CIF) - 2023

In June 2023, the average aluminium waste and scrap import price amounted to $1,731 per ton, which is down by -3.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a slight reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 5.2% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2,032 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Spain ($2,069 per ton), while the price for Bulgaria ($1,345 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (-0.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In June 2023, the average aluminium waste and scrap export price amounted to $1,599 per ton, growing by 2.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 31% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1,663 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($2,408 per ton), while the average price for exports to Pakistan ($648 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Italy

Aluminium waste and scrap imports into Italy dropped slightly to 646K tons in 2022, shrinking by -2.3% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports continue to indicate a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 5.2% against the previous year.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap imports fell notably to $861M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated notable growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +31.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 63%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $1.1B, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 24%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 191K tons, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap exports declined markedly to $223M in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 88%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $291M, and then declined sharply in the following year.
