Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Canada (FOB) - 2023

In June 2023, the average aluminium waste and scrap export price amounted to $1,967 per ton, remaining constant against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 when the average export price increased by 153% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $4,769 per ton. From November 2022 to June 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In June 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to China ($2,469 per ton) and Hong Kong SAR ($2,186 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($1,870 per ton) and India ($1,875 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In June 2023, the average aluminium waste and scrap import price amounted to $1,502 per ton, with a decrease of -16.1% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 an increase of 14% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,790 per ton, and then reduced rapidly in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($3,130 per ton), while the price for the United States stood at $1,459 per ton.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Qatar (+0.1%).

The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 22%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 630K tons, and then dropped in the following year.
