Exports in Western Africa

In 2022, exports of fruits in Western Africa fell remarkably to X tons, with a decrease of X% against 2021. In general, exports showed a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fruit exports contracted dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a noticeable decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Cote d'Ivoire was the major exporter of fruits in Western Africa, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Ghana (X tons) and Senegal (X tons), together mixing up a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Mali (X tons), Burkina Faso (X tons) and Mauritania (X tons) - each accounted for a X% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to fruit exports from Cote d'Ivoire stood at X%. At the same time, Mauritania (X%), Mali (X%) and Senegal (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mauritania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Ghana experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Burkina Faso (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Cote d'Ivoire totaled X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ghana (X% per year) and Burkina Faso (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, which is down by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

The purchases of the three major importers of fruits, namely Niger, Nigeria and Senegal, represented more than half of total import.
