Exports from Sri Lanka

In 2023, shipments abroad of textile hosepiping and similar textile tubing was finally on the rise to reach X kg for the first time since 2020, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X kg in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, textile tubing exports surged to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a sharp downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Maldives (X kg) was the main destination for textile tubing exports from Sri Lanka, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, textile tubing exports to Maldives exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, India (X kg), threefold. Portugal (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of volume to Maldives amounted to X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (X% per year) and Portugal (X% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X), Maldives ($X) and the UK ($X) constituted the largest markets for textile tubing exported from Sri Lanka worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. India and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Portugal, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Export Prices by Country

The average textile tubing export price stood at $X per ton in 2023, growing by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of X% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Maldives ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Sri Lanka

In 2023, imports of textile hosepiping and similar textile tubing into Sri Lanka skyrocketed to X tons, picking up by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports showed a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, textile tubing imports skyrocketed to $X in 2023. Overall, imports posted a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

China (X tons), India (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) were the main suppliers of textile tubing imports to Sri Lanka, together comprising X% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates, Singapore, the UK and Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

From 2012 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of X%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of X%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
