Way-Type Unit Head Exports

Exports from Germany

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of way-type unit heads for working metal, when their volume decreased by -31.8% to X tons. In general, exports, however, enjoyed modest growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 161% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, way-type unit head exports stood at $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed slight growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 288% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Spain (X tons) was the main destination for way-type unit head exports from Germany, with a 33% share of total exports. Moreover, way-type unit head exports to Spain exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, China (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Czech Republic (X tons), with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Spain stood at +53.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (-4.1% per year) and the Czech Republic (+65.6% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for way-type unit head exported from Germany were the Czech Republic ($X), China ($X) and Italy ($X), with a combined 74% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Taiwan (Chinese), the United States, Spain, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Turkey, India and France, which together accounted for a further 20%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +118.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average way-type unit head export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 66% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 191%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+9.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Germany

In 2021, imports of way-type unit heads for working metal into Germany dropped sharply to X tons, declining by -55.6% on the previous year. In general, imports showed a sharp descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 152%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, way-type unit head imports declined markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports faced a significant curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 269% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Switzerland (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main suppliers of way-type unit head imports to Germany, with a combined 87% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of -0.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Italy ($X) and Switzerland ($X) appeared to be the largest way-type unit head suppliers to Germany, with a combined 84% share of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, Switzerland, with a CAGR of -11.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

Import Prices by Country

The average way-type unit head import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 46%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Switzerland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
