Wine Exports
Exports in CIS
After two years of decline, shipments abroad of wine and grape must increased by X% to X litres in 2022. Total exports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, wine exports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Moldova represented the largest exporting country with an export of around X litres, which amounted to X% of total exports. Russia (X litres) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Uzbekistan (X%) and Armenia (X%). Azerbaijan (X litres) and Belarus (X litres) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Moldova ($X) remains the largest wine supplier in the CIS, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Armenia ($X), with an X% share of total exports. It was followed by Russia, with a X% share.
In Moldova, wine exports shrank by an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Armenia (X% per year) and Russia (X% per year).
Export Prices by Country

In 2022, imports of wine and grape must in the CIS rose rapidly to X litres, with an increase of X% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X litres in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, wine imports amounted to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by X% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Russia (X litres) represented the main importer of wine and grape must, making up X% of total imports. Belarus (X litres) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (X%).
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to wine imports into Russia stood at X%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (X%) and Belarus (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022.
