Electric Filament Lamp Exports

Exports in Asia-Pacific

In 2021, overseas shipments of electric filament lamps increased by 5% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after seven years of decline. Over the period under review, exports saw a temperate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 124%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, electric filament lamp exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a noticeable slump. The level of export peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

China prevails in exports structure, recording X units, which was approx. 86% of total exports in 2021. Thailand (X units), Japan (X units) and South Korea (X units) took a minor share of total exports.

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the electric filament lamps exports, with a CAGR of +11.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Thailand (+8.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Japan (-4.8%) and South Korea (-6.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+40 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Korea and Japan saw its share reduced by -3.9% and -3.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest electric filament lamp supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China totaled -1.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Japan (-7.1% per year) and South Korea (-2.0% per year).

The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per unit in 2021, surging by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+4.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

After four years of decline, purchases abroad of electric filament lamps increased by 18% to X units in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 66%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, electric filament lamp imports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a perceptible slump. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Indonesia (X units) was the key importer of electric filament lamps, creating 30% of total imports. The Philippines (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Thailand (X units), China (X units), India (X units), South Korea (X units), Japan (X units), Malaysia (X units) and Cambodia (X units). All these countries together took near 55% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to electric filament lamp imports into Indonesia stood at -3.4%. At the same time, Cambodia (+55.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +55.3% from 2012-2021. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X), China ($X) and the Philippines ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 38% of total imports. India, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Japan and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 43%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +57.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $X per unit in 2021, declining by -2.6% against the previous year. Import price indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 55%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2020, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per unit), while Indonesia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+25.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
