Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, table linen exports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Egypt (X tons) was the main exporter of table linen, knitted or crocheted, creating X% of total exports. South Africa (X tons) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Tunisia (X%). The following exporters - Madagascar (X tons) and Guinea (X tons) - each resulted at a X% share of total exports.

Exports from Egypt decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Guinea (X%) and Tunisia (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guinea emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, South Africa (X%) and Madagascar (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Tunisia (X p.p.), Egypt (X p.p.), South Africa (X p.p.) and Guinea (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Madagascar (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Egypt ($X) remains the largest table linen supplier in Africa, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Africa ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Madagascar, with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Egypt totaled X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Africa (X% per year) and Madagascar (X% per year).

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of X%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined significantly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Madagascar ($X per ton), while Tunisia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Madagascar (X%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Over the period under review, imports saw a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, table linen imports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The countries with the highest levels of table linen imports in 2022 were Senegal (X tons), Kenya (X tons), Mozambique (X tons), Libya (X tons), South Africa (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Angola (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Tanzania (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Mauritania (X tons) and Burundi (X tons), together accounting for X% of total import. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Burundi ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
